Crew complete coastal clean in Dominica

As part of our commitment to help preserve and protect our marine environment, throughout 2024 colleagues ship and shore have taken part in 14 coastal cleans, across 7 countries. Over 100 shoreside colleagues and more than 160 crew have got involved, cleaning an impressive 235,000 square metres of coastline and collecting over 1.2 tonnes of waste.

Most recently, colleagues from Queen Mary 2 cleaned Salisbury Beach on the beautiful Caribbean island of Dominica. The 24-strong team, including volunteers from the Dominica Solid Waste Management team and students from Dominica State College, cleared 25kg of rubbish, including glass, plastic, fishing net and ropes. Well done to everyone involved!

Robert Price, Environmental Compliance Officer on Queen Mary 2, said:

“Our team of volunteers are proud to have participated in Queen Mary 2’s first beach clean-up in Dominica. Through our passion for sustainability and environmental protection, in our small part, we felt we helped make a difference. By working together with members of the local community, we are happy that we’ve helped to make a positive impact on the local community and environment.”

Queen Mary 2 Captain Aseem Hashmi added:

“As part of our sustainability focus on the places we visit all over the world, it’s imperative whilst trying to limit our impact in some ways, we must endeavour to leave a positive legacy in any small way we can in the communities we visit. In addition to our ship’s company beach clean activity, we also visited a local children’s orphanage and shelter where some books and toys were donated.”
